What is Restylane Defyne?

Restylane Defyne is a hyaluronic acid filler from the Restylane family of products.   FDA-approved in December 2016 and  released in 2017, it is approved for the correction of deeper wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds (smile lines)

What makes Restylane Defyne different from other hyaluronic acid fillers?

Restylane Defyne is a smooth gel that provides good support of deeper wrinkles. In clinical studies it was shown to be quite comfortable during injection as numbing medication called lidocaine is mixed into the filler itself. Because of how the hyaluronic acid strands within Restylane Defyne are bonded together, the gel is smooth and integrates well into the area of injection. Also due to its filler structure, Restylane Defyne may provide a longer duration and allow less swelling than some previous fillers used for wrinkle reduction.

Where can Restylane Defyne be used?

Restylane Defyne is a more robust filler, therefore Dr. Kleydman uses it to provide structure and support to areas of the face that have lost volume over time. Although FDA-approved for deep wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds, there are many uses of the filler beyond smile lines.   The marionette folds, the cheeks, jawline, and even the temples may be appropriate areas of Restylane Defyne placement.

Does Restylane Defyne look natural in the face?

Yes. One of the most dreaded fears of patients is looking as though they have an unnatural appearance. Dr. Kleydman is careful to select the right injectable dermal filler for each patients circumstance. Restylane Defyne integrates into the area of placement extremely well, lending this filler to a very natural result in expert hands.

Can Restylane Defyne be combined with other fillers or procedures?

Yes, Restylane Defyne may be combined with a multitude of other fillers harmoniously to create a liquid facelift, imparting proper structure and balance to the face to create natural looking rejuvenation.   Restylane Defyne is used as a foundational hyaluronic acid filler, addressing deeper volume loss in a manner to other injectable fillers and volumizers such as Restylane Lyft (Perlane), Radiesse, Voluma, or Sculptra.   Any of these products can be used with finer fillers to accentuate small areas of needed correction or subtle lines

How much downtime is there following Restylane Defyne treatment?

In Dr. Kleydmans experience, there is typically mild to minimal swelling following Restylane Defyne treatment.  While individual results may vary, most patients experience minimal to mild swelling for a day or two.   Most patients can resume daily social activities same day.

As with any injectable dermal filler, there is a chance of bruise.   Dr. Palm may use a cannula technique to minimize this risk, and patients should avoid medications, supplements, and vitamins that thin the blood for one week prior to treatment.

What are the possible side effects of Restylane Defyne?

The side effects of Restylane Defyne are similar to any other FDA-approved injectable hyaluronic acid filler product. More common and mild side effects following Restylane Defyne include pain during injection, swelling at the site of placement, or a bruise.   Extremely rare reactions include allergic reaction to the filler, infection, compression of a nearby vessel causing skin changes, visual disturbances, or stroke. These are very uncommon and should prompt a patient to call the treating physician immediately.
